Biography
Asa Akira was born Asa Takigami in New York City on 3 January 1985 to Japanese parents and lived in Japan between the ages of six and thirteen. She started performing in 2006 and won AVN Female Performer of the Year in 2013.
She is one of the few people on this list with a mainstream publishing record. Insatiable and the later books put a first-person voice on a career that already had the usual scene awards attached. Directing and presenting work followed the performer-of-the-year year.
